NUMERIC RESEARCH KENGO KUMA - FLOATING TEA HOUSE - 2017

FUAN (literally, a floating hermitage) is a floating tea room made up of a balloon of ellipsoidal shape filled with helium with, over it, a veil of ultra-light material called super organza.

Weighing barely 11 grams per square meter, the weight of the veil with the small rocks (pebbles) placed on the bottom of the sheet offset the pressure caused by helium in the balloon made of PVC, creating a perfectly balanced structure without walls or pillars. A person wishing to live the experience will then be seated on multiple tatamis of one length of almost 3 meters, which gives him a lot of space to enjoy this floating tea room.

Architect Kengo Kuma talks about his creation, which was initially developed in 2007, as being a space of virtual reality, or a state of consciousness in the form of a floating body.
