Reassignment of a wasteland into housing/public space in Kapelleveld - 2016

The Kapelleveld site known for its garden cities appears today as a very airy complex in a dense urban fabric. These constructions in between war have not been able to remain autonomous through time. Plots of land located within the Kapelleveld city are now unused that lead to an isolation from the life of neighbouring cities. Indeed, the inhabitants of Alma and the city of Friendship have no social, cultural or cultural interest to take over the Kapelleveld.

Following these observations, the project develops into different approaches: To begin with, the global analysis carried out previously shows a deficit of public places with associated services. Re-energizing the neighbourhood with the help of cultural centres and commercial activities through the creation of public spaces is therefore an important issue in this project.

One of the qualities of the plot is that it is located on the edge a long green walk that offers the opportunity to come and create links with the project. The project therefore appears to be an extension, a diversion from the green promenade. The creation of two access points, one to the east and one to the west, allows pedestrians to and cyclists to cross the plot in its length and connect the two levels.
Thus we have a elongated space that would take into account the topography of the field.

On the basis of its elements, the residential units are based on the typology of the snake, which reconstitute islets and form collective spaces. Allying the plant space with the mineral space of the squares allows us to intertwine the two worlds. The identity of the snake makes it possible to form private/public pockets. It identifies three public squares whose treatment allows multiple appropriations for the users of the district.

This important public space offered to the Kappelleveld is a counterpart to the land that the project benefits from.

In short, the re-dynamisation means that the building will become denser in relation to the scale of the district, which offers the possibility of hosting community infrastructures.
